  • It’s the review of any form of communication for respectful representation of any marginalized group of people. It’s telling a story that is authentic to the diverse world we live in. It’s a helpful tool for writers, an opportunity to learn and celebrate cultures and people that are different from you.

  • When a client reaches out, I ask for a couple lines describing the project and if there is anything specific they want me to read for. Then after terms/fees/deadline is established, an agreement contract is signed by both of us. I do at least two reads of the content. The first I highlight anything that may reveal a hidden or unconscious bias, or stereotype. The second read, I cut and paste the passages onto a report with an explanation and suggested fix.

  • If I’m hired as a diversity editor, I will, but even then the fixes are suggested. As a sensitivity reader, I make no edits to the content.

  • I generally ask for three weeks but can meet an earlier deadline with a rush fee.

  • The base is .013 per word or $130 per hour depending on the project. Rates are negotiable for cultural consulting and diversity editing.

  • For longer projects with set fees, I require half when I begin work then the second half when you receive your report. If there is a need for a different plan, we can discuss it.

  • PayPal, Zelle or check.

  • Yes, with a rush fee depending on the scope of the work.

  • Yes. I can review what you need.

  • Always! This is new knowledge so yes, follow-up questions are included. If asked to read revised content, a new agreement/fee is set up.

  • Absolutely! My agreement contract that all clients must sign ensures your work is confidential and will not be revealed by me. You can share the report with your people, though. Many clients will have their own contract which I’m happy to sign.
